Transportation in Warsaw

Airport

The Frederic Chopin international Airport is located ten kilometres oustide Warsaw city centre. Bus number 175 gets you to the city centre, same as Bus 188, which goes to the eastern quarters of Warsaw (a ticket costs 2.40 Zl each way). Alternatively, you can take a taxi outside the arrival hall. Beware of private cabs or you are almost certain to be overcharged. A taxi ride takes rougly 20 minutes and will cost you about 25 Zl.

Local transport

The local public transport system, operated by Zarzad Transportu Miejskiego (ZTM), consists of trams, bus lines and one underground line. A single ticket costs 2.50 Zl, while foreign students carrying an international iSiC card can obtain a reduced ticket for 1.25 Zl. The undergound line serves the area between the city centre and the southern suburbs of Warsa

If you are planning a busy day of sightseeing, getting a Warsaw tourist card is handy. It includes free entrance to the city's museums, free use of public transport and various other discounts and costs 35 Zl for 24 hours and 65 Zl for the 3-day ticket. If you just need the transport, get a 24-hour ticket is fine, which is also valid for night buses, and costs 7.20 Zl (reduced 3.70).

Taxi

It is best to book a taxi by telephone rather than hailing one in the street. If you do hop into a taxi on the street, make sure you they quote you a price first.
